Working Arrangement Hybrid Job Description Treasury Operations is the center of excellence, with in-depth knowledge of banking payment and collection infrastructure and processes.

Treasury Operations is responsible for providing support and subject matter expertise to all North American business units and Group functions including Reinsurance, US, Canadian and Wealth & Asset management, to support the full array of operational activities including cheque deposit and payment, incoming and outgoing wire transfers and ACH, payment exception handling and cash forecasting & positioning.

This position, based in Toronto Ontario or Waterloo Ontario, is accountable for overseeing cash balances management and execution of cash management operations and accounts payable processes and related controls across all Cash Management offices located in North America, overseeing an estimate of 10 onshore FTEs (including 4 direct reports).

The scope of cash balances management includes the preparation and maintenance of operational and custodial cash forecasts; the positioning of operational and custodial cash accounts to target balances; and the settlement of associated inter-company, inter-division and inter-segment cash flows as well as other needed cash movement.

Cash management operations (CMO) covers activities including all disbursement processes and related controls, printed cheque distribution, cheque deposit processing, monitoring and notification of incoming electronic transactions, exception handling, investigation and resolution.

Treasury operations department processes more than fifty-three million (53M) transactions each year, with value exceeding two trillion, six hundred billion dollars (2,6 trillion) across twenty-nine (29) banking partners and more than eight hundred (800) bank accounts; and administers Manulife’s fourteen billion, eight hundred thousand dollars (14.8B) liquidity pool.

Key Accountabilities Cash Balances Management Identify and recommend opportunities to further streamline and automate cash balance management practices including cash forecasting, cash positioning and cash movements while ensuring changes to processes are integrated in a cost-effective manner.

These changes may include working with BUs and other stakeholders to maximize the benefits of using the Kryiba TMS.

Responsible for the execution of treasury-owned cash balance management policies and practices, as well as oversight of cash positioning and forecasting efficiently and effectively.

Continuously review functional needs against the external marketplace as well as current and emerging trends within the financial services industry.

Recommend changes to policies and practices as necessary.

Oversee the work of direct/indirect reports to ensure consistent, high quality sustainable cash balance management services to the business units.

This objective is accomplished through strategic business relationships to optimize operational efficiency and adherence to Treasury policies.

Support new North American product offerings by designing cash flow banking models, which requires strong influencing and negotiating skills at all levels of senior management, leveraging staff capabilities, and managing to generate standardized output Cash Management Operations Oversee North America cash management operational activities (including vendor payments) through the work of direct reports or work performed by MBPS (offshore team without direct accountability) to ensure a) consistent, high quality sustainable cash and payment settlement services are delivered on timely, completely and accurately and b) pre-established SLAs with our internal customers are met Identify any gaps in current processes or practices and recommend plan to address those gaps Serve as secondary escalation point of contact for any production issues if not effectively addressed by the team lead of production activities; support on all complex and escalated issues through analysis, recommendation and implementation of required solutions efficiently and effectively Identify process improvement opportunities in the areas of responsibility, work with Treasury Operations Advisory group to develop, test and implement a viable solution on standard global Treasury platform to enhance efficiency and generate production gains in day-to-day operations Kyriba Optimization Support the AVP Cash Management Operations (NA) to promote the use of Kyriba within TaCT.

Lead the implementation of Asia onboarding to Kyriba for balance reporting and cash forecasting by supporting the Asia team to develop BRDs, overseeing the onboarding of Asia accounts and ensuring that standardization is maintained within the TMS.

Own balance reporting for all Operational bank accounts.

Utilize Kyriba where possible and work with the MBPS teams to deliver a self serve balance reporting solution in Power BI.

Work closely with the AVP Cash Management to oversee any projects related to Kyriba and/or integrating with Kyriba to ensure efficiency and integrity of the system is maintained.

Work with the Manager, Bank Operations Management to optimize the use of Kyriba for Bank Account Management and maintaining the banking models.

Document and maintain key processes and controls over the data integrity and quality, including relevant set-ups or system configuration.

Collaborate with other team members, Advisory group and FP&M to continue driving process improvement and optimization of the TMS and how it integrates with Manulife systems.

Ensure that Kyriba release notes are reviewed and oversee the activation of any enhancements that will affect our daily processes.

Staff Development Responsible for coaching and mentoring of staff including the execution of performance appraisals Manage staff rotation program within Operations group and collaborate with leaders of Treasury Operations Advisory and Compliance groups for staff rotation across groups Support and direct career development on staff and create an engaged and motivated team that demonstrates the Treasury Operations values of collaboration and commitment to excellence Provide staff learning and development opportunities to acquire skill and knowledge required to perform assigned duties Work closely with the MBPS AP, CMO, TBS team to ensure high level of skills and understanding of our CMO, AP and Cash Balances pro Job Requirement (Knowledge/Skill/Competencies/Education) Thorough technical knowledge of cash management and banking principles, payment/settlement systems and/or treasury systems in North America 10 years’ experience in Treasury Operations or similar capacity Accounting designation (CPA) and/or treasury certification (CTM) and/or financial qualifications such as CFA/FRM Demonstrated influence and negotiation skills Excellent people management skills required to direct onshore staff and offshore resources in a wide variety of tasks, and across different locations Strong communication skills required to interface with Business Units as well as third party service providers (ie MBPS).
