Financial Analyst

Hamilton Health Sciences

This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted July 28, 2022.

The Population Health Research Institute (PHRI), a joint institute of Hamilton Health Sciences and McMaster University, with over 300 employees working directly with 60 researchers. PHRI conducts clinical research internationally in 101 countries and is a world leader in large, global health and population and health outcomes research. Our capacity to conduct multiple international studies concurrently, with tens of thousands of participants in each, is a capability very few organizations in the world can match.

1. Review the General Ledger; verify the accuracy and completeness of the expenses (staffing and other expenses) charged to the grant / study with the project team coordinator / manager prior to preparing invoices.
2. Monitor the study status and issue the invoices promptly upon achievement of milestones.
3. Coordinate the collection of all required supporting documentation from the project team.
4. Pass through invoicing mostly consists of invoicing for costs after incurrence or advance requests.
5. Ensuring timely receipt of the payments and conducting delinquent payment follow-up with payer
6. Generate reports which follow external stakeholder’s requirements and provide supporting documentation.
7. Analyst will prepare reconciliation of accounts receivable for review of Controller and do regular follow-up of outstanding receivables with agencies / sponsors.
8. Perform journal entries in Mc Master Mosaic system relating to recovery of PHRI grants received through McMaster. Preparation of journal entries as required for deposits, corrections, intra-institutional payments; reallocation of costs across projects/departments.
9. Requisitioning new cost centers at HHSC to track project specific activities. Coordinating the collection of required supporting documents and signatures of account holders and their designates.
10. Perform Financial Analysis on assigned projects and generate revised projected budgets
11. Review financial reports in the PHRI reporting tool and perform reasonability analyses of the account status, review of any variations between the HHSC Meditech reports, prepare any correction entries or entries required to consolidate McMaster activity for consolidated reporting.
12. Other duties as assigned.

1. Undergraduate degree in Accounting / Business or Community College Diploma, CPA preferred.
2. Minimum three years’ experience accounting of Clinical research or project based environment
3. Minimum two years’ experience with information systems and advanced Excel.
4. Must be detail oriented with attention to detail and knowledge of financial reporting practices.
5. Good oral and written communication skills.
