Senior Project Manager

Hamilton Health Sciences

This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted July 26, 2022.

The role of the Senior Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize large, complex and high value ICT projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.
In a consultative role the Senior Project Manager assists Clinical Managers in identifying technological solutions to support their identified needs such as efficiency, quality and service improvements.
•Assists client department management in identifying and evaluating technological solutions to meet their indentified needs.
•Drives the development of Business Cases as precursors to RFPs and ICT projects and works with Financial Controllers to ensure accurate 10 year costs are identified
•Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
•Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
•Assist Project Owner in identifying potential areas of change resistance, evaluate these and develop Change Management and Communication Plans to help mitigate them.
•Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
•Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
•Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
•Track project milestones and deliverables.
•Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.
•Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
•Conduct project postmortems and create a recommendations report in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.
•Develop best practices and tools for project execution and management.
•Leads the development of resourcing plans with participation from internal and external technical experts to achieve project goals in alignment with costs identified in business case.
•Draft and submit budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.
•Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
•Where required, negotiate with other department managers, sourced vendor or through an RFP to determine scope, deliverables and Statements of Work around purchased systems and hardware
•Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project cycle.
•Initiate purchases and track billing and payment against budget
•Monitor and report on financial actuals to planned budget expenditures
•Assists Project Owner in the development of detection and measurement systems to track actual benefits against the expected benefits as stated in the Business Case and, where necessary, further remediation activities to realize benefits. Define baseline against which changes will be measured as either positive or negative.
•Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
•Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.
•Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
•Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
•Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
•Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
.•Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.
•Assist Project Owner in the execution of Change,Risk Management, Communication and other Plans as required by project
•Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work to ensure deadlines and scope of work are met.
•Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project

1. Superior knowledge of the PMBOK methodology and philosophy.
2. Effective personnel management skills.
3. Excellent communication skills
4. Working knowledge of typical hospital structures, including clinical, administrative and engineering practices.
5. Knowledge or hospital regulatory requirements such as the protection of PHI, Infection Control, WHMIS, etc.
6. High level working knowledge of Information Technology architecture including, networks, operating systems, applications, and hardware such as PCs, servers and network storage systems.
7. Business Administration or Computer Technology and PMP designation
8. Project Manager 8-10 years
9. Project Management Software (MS Project or Eclipse or similar) 5 years
10. In a Hospital environment : working understanding of MS OS, Citrix, VM servers, Storage, Clinical Applications such as EPIC.
11. Highly competent and efficient in the use of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio 3 years
12. Experience in supervising technical IT staff’s functional tasks 5 years
