Industrial Designer (Retail)

About Somerville Somerville is a leading design and manufacturer of branded retail experiences in Toronto.

Since 1942, we have been developing creative retail solutions that are as far ranging as our capabilities.

From small counter displays to entire store interiors, we design and build for some of the biggest brands and retailers across North America.

Overview As an Industrial Designer at Somerville, you will be doing the role of a designer and an engineer simultaneously.

You will assist in developing creative displays that will wow our clients through detailed and stunning visual presentations.

You will also be developing various types of shop drawings for manufacturing.

As part of the creative team, you will not only work closely with the Creative Director; you will also be part of a larger internal team that includes project managers, manufacturing leads and sales.

You are an excellent fit for the role if you have a proven record of conceptual design and engineering experience in the retail industrial or similar.

You are a hands-on designer that will go above and beyond to make sure the job is done right.

You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are excited about learning and building your skills.

Required Skills and Experience A degree or diploma in Industrial Design or Equivalent High proficiency with minimum 3 years of full-time experience using Solidworks Minimum 3 years of experience designing for the retail environment Minimum 3 years of experience in developing shop drawings for manufacturing Minimum 2 years of experience using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator Excellent understanding of various manufacturing processes (millwork, metal fabrication and plastic fabrication) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong analytical ability to deal with challenges and problem solve Nice to Have Experience rendering in Keyshot Good understanding of blow moulding and injection moulding Experience working in a manufacturing environment
