Unit Summary

The Thrombosis Services at the Juravinski Site is a regional service with referrals coming from family physicians and specialists in the hospital and the community. The clinic provides a range of services to support quality thromboembolic care. Operating during regular business hours, the Thrombosis Clinic provides resources and facilities for consultations, examinations, diagnostic tests, tissue specimens; wound care; and blood specimen collection. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team of Business Clerks, Health Care Aids, Physician Specialists and Residents, Registered Nurses, and Registered Practical Nurses.

Position Summary

As a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, the Business Clerk provides clerical, administrative, and business support to patients, nurses, and clinicians in outpatient clinics. The Business Clerk processes referrals; schedules and changes appointments; registers patients; schedules physician clinics; prepares the clinics’ charts; monitors the inventory of supplies and places orders; takes minutes at staff and business meetings; and relays and processes information using a range of communication technologies. Functions according to the job description for Business Clerks.

Qualifications

1. Commercial/Business/Secretarial College diploma/certificate or equivalent office experience
2. Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2 or demonstrated knowledge equivalent to the Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2 acquired in a different Business Clerk position, which may be subject to testing
3. Required: experience in accurately using the following Meditech Modules: Patient Registration, Community Wide Scheduling , Order Entry, Materials Management, Billing, Purchasing
4. Keyboarding 40 w.p.m.
5. Required: demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Ofiice software: PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word
6. Mathematical skills related to scheduling and statistical documents
7. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, public relations and problem solving skills
8. Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly
9. Ability to liaise with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
10. Ability to appreciate the confidential nature of the position
11. Ability to sit for long periods, repetitive reaching, repetitive bending
12. Experience working in an out-patient clinic would be an asset
13. Knowledge, skill, and experience in office procedures and equipment use
