Charge RRT – Respiratory Techn

This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted May 12, 2022.

Accountable to the Clinical Manager. As a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, the Charge Respiratory Therapist will promote excellence in patient/family centered care and will function in the role of clinical expert, educator, mentor and consultant. The Charge RT is responsible for the delivery of clinically excellent respiratory care and in promoting best practice in the ICU East, South, West, Burn Unit, CCU, ED, HBO and wards. The Charge RT demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge and leadership skills and is able to promote excellence in RT practice by educating, mentoring and in the development and implementation of new practices and policies. The Charge RT in collaboration with the RT team, identifies, develops ,implements and evaluates programs to enhance clinical proficiency, quality improvement and team skills. Responsibilities include respiratory education and mentoring/coaching of all staff at the bedside and in a formal setting, day to day organization of the unit through communication and collaboration with the Clinical Manager and RT team members. Responsibility for other duties may be assigned, including but not limited to, policy/procedure development, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, committee work, new equipment review/trials , assisting in research, review of appropriate staffing levels. The charge RT promotes collaboration among all members of the healthcare team, is able to coordinate multiple tasks, is accessible and able to manage crises.

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO)
2. Successful Completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) exam
3. Undergraduate level degree
4. Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience within the last three (3) years, in the Respiratory care of the adult critical care, cardiac, neuro, trauma, burns, medical surgical patient
5. Minimum of two (2) years demonstrated leadership and education related activities
6. Demonstrated clinical experience and technical application of hyperbaric oxygen therapy preferred
7. Demonstrated clinical experience and technical application as a member of RACE team preferred
8. Demonstrated clinical and technical application of Respiratory Therapy
9. Demonstrated skills in inter professional collaboration, communication, and teamwork
10. Demonstrated evidence of continuous education and life long learning
11. Evidence of ability to develop, conduct and evaluate educational programs
12. Demonstrated commitment to continuous education and learning for self and others
13. Demonstrated excellence in the ability to initiate, model and support change in a constructive manner
14. Demonstrated ability for innovation, independent action initiative, problem solving, organization and prioritization
15. Demonstrated ability to promote quality care through the development and evaluation of policies, protocols and standards of care
16. Ability to address and resolve clinical performance issues in conjunction with the Clinical Manager
17. Ability to provide clinical leadership by acting as a role model, advocate, resource, facilitator and coordinator in a dynamic and academic healthcare environment
