Unit Summary
The McMaster University Medical Centre site of Hamilton Health Sciences is home to McMaster Children’s Hospital. As of April 04, 2011, a specialized Pediatric Emergency Department provides care for infants, children and youth 17 years of age and under. Our dedicated team of health professionals provides family centred emergency care that embraces teaching, research and health promotion.
Position Summary
The focus of this position is the care of children with a wide range of illnesses, conditions and injuries as well as children of acutely ill or injured adults. In consultation with the health care team the Child Life Specialist will provide observations, assessments, procedural preparation and support as well as therapeutic interactions and activities that offer emotional support and developmentally appropriate education for children or adolescents related either to their diagnosis or their parent�s diagnosis. Intervention strategies for providing further support for their child may be provided to parents.
