Nurse Practitioner Lead

Hamilton Health Sciences

This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted May 12, 2022.

Reporting directly to the Director, Regional Cancer Program & Hematology, and dotted line reporting to the Chief of Interprofessional Practice, the Nurse Practitioner Lead supervises and provides leadership to other Nurse Practitioners (NP) and coordinates the management of data, statistics and quality indicators associated with the NP profession within the JHCC Complex Malignant Hematology, Juravinski Cancer Centre Urgent and Supportive Care context. The Nurse Practitioner Lead will be responsible for coordination of the team schedule, learning and development, projects, and the advancement of a coordinated and integrated NP model across the Cancer Care Continuum, inclusive of inpatient and outpatient cancer programming. This position will be involved in the recruitment and hiring of staff, support performance appraisals and implement program development initiatives. The NP Lead has the authority to re-organize staffing and processes as necessary for efficient workflow and to maintain a safe environment. This role will serve as a lead for strengthening interprofessional and intraprofessional collaboration within the Complex Malignant Hematology, RESSCU & Supportive Care programs. As a leadership position, this role will liaise with other professional group leads to support the development and strategic/operational direction of the clinical unit.

1. Completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing or a recognized equivalent graduate program
2. Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in extended class category
3. Active membership in professional nursing association(s) (Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology)
4. Formal education in health care leadership or comparable work experience is preferred
5. Minimum of 5-7 years of recent experience in Hematology/ Oncology as an Nurse Practitioner, including experience working with an interdisciplinary team
6. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning
7. Demonstrated excellence in communication skills (written and oral)
8. Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt positively to a constantly changing environment
9. Knowledge and experience in change theory and adult learning principles
10. Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
11. Effective advanced skills and competencies in interpersonal relations, critical thinking, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
12. Demonstrated knowledge and application of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) tools and processes
