Unit Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is currently seeking for a Program Coordinator to support the Clinical Extern Program. The Clinical Extern Program employs learners from various disciplines (such as nursing, medicine, respiratory therapy, and paramedics) as unregulated health care providers who support clinical teams across the five Hamilton Health Sciences sites.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief of Nursing Practice, the Program Coordinator provides administrative support and coordination of efficient daily operations of the Clinical Extern Program at Hamilton Health Sciences, and supports the development, implementation and maintenance of special projects within the Program. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the administering financial and payroll transactions, program reports, data collection, report writing and submission of reports to the ministry. The Coordinator will also be responsible for coordination of schedules for the coordinators, orientation, and helping with coordination of extern onboarding and paper work, in addition to other office and administrative tasks for the program.

Monday to Friday; days

This role is temporary until March 31, 2023.


1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in health sciences or related field
2. Recent clinical experience in an acute healthcare setting is considered an asset
3. Minimum of 2 years experience with medical administration and accounting
4. Strong knowledge of College of Nurses of Ontario, and other regulatory College’s credentialing process is considered an asset
5. Advanced computer skills in a Windows environment including Outlook, Microsoft Software, Kronos, Taleo and comfortable with learning new computer skills
6. Demonstrated attention to detail, problem solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions
7. Experience with data collection, report writing, and submission of reports to the Ministry
8. High level of critical thinking, organizational and time management skills and able to cope in a high demand environment
9. Demonstrated ability to work on own initiative, develop and initiate systems that create efficient workflow, establish priorities and meet deadlines effectively
10. Demonstrated excellence in effective communication and interpersonal skills within a professional environment
11. Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment
