Unit Summary

Cardiac Arrhythmia Services is a multi-disciplinary program that serves the Central-South Region of Ontario. It is comprised of a number of areas including the Electrophysiology Labs and Autonomic Lab. Services offered by these labs include electrophysiology (EP) studies, cardiac ablations with mapping, insertion of implantable cardiodefibrillators (ICDs) and pacemakers, left atrial appendage closure, beta adrenergic testing, adenosine testing, and tilt table testing.

Position Summary

As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care, and provides nursing care according to the CAU job description, standards of practice for Registered Nurses and the core values at Hamilton Health Sciences. In addition, the expectation of this position is to rotate through EP Labs, Autonomic Lab, and Reception area.

Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Friday; days and evenings

Qualifications

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
2. Current ACLS certification preferred
3. Current Electrophysiology (EP) Lab, Procedure Room and associated Reception/Recovery experience.
4. Experience in peri-operative or critical care nursing within the past year; including assisting with the insertion of arrhythmia devices and procedural sedation.
5. Recent 2 years experience (within the last 2 years) with interventional cardiology procedures preferred
6. Experience in autonomic testing; including adenosine testing, beta adrenergic testing and tilt table testing.
7. Demonstrated competency in ECG interpretation, pacing and cardiac/vasoactive medications and airway management.
8. Demonstrated clinical knowledge, skill and judgement related to arrhythmia nursing, cardiac care and the technical aspects of the EP and Autonomic Labs.
9. Ability to wear a lead apron for extended periods required
10. Demonstrated strong knowledge base of hospital resources, policy and procedure, RHPA, EPS, ORNAC and peri-operative nursing standards of practice
11. Demonstrated communication, mentoring, team building, and organizational skills
12. Ability to identify, support and present change in a positive manner
13. Demonstrated commitment to quality patient care
14. Evidence of commitment to professional practice and lifelong learning
