Unit Summary

Inpatient Overflow is a 9 bed unit located at the north end of the Juravinski Hospital Emergency Department. Admitted patients of all services are cared for in this unit and patients are typically discharged or transferred to the inpatient ward associated with their service within 72 hours.

Position Summary

As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse in Inpatient Overflow provides primary nursing care to either 4 or 5 patients. The Registered Nurse coordinates and facilitates patient care and practices within the College of Nursing Standards.

days, evenings, nights, weekends, weekdays, holidays


1. Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in good standing
2. Previous medical or oncology experience (within 2 years) preferred
3. Successful completion of the HHS ECG interpretation and telemetry monitoring course preferred
4. Current BCLS (basic cardiac life support) certification preferred
5. Understanding of, and commitment to applying principles of Senior Friendly Care
6. Able to problem solve and apply critical thinking skills in a rapidly changing environment
7. Commitment to working as an integral part of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the best care for all
8. Commitment to providing an Excellent Patient Experience with each patient/family
9. Commitment to ongoing learning
10. Evidence of consistent attendance and punctuality
