Speech Language Pathologist

Hamilton Health Sciences

This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted July 26, 2022.

The Speech-Language Pathologist works in partnership with the neonatal follow-up multi-disciplinary team to provide S-LP services to high-risk infants from birth to 3 years of age. As a member of the developmental care team for preterm infants, the Speech-Language Pathologist contributes knowledge about speech and language development and the potential speech and language sequelae for this population. The S-LP provides early identification of communication difficulties to at risk infants and children aged 0-3 years. S-LP responsibilities include consultation regarding: Early identification, assessment, monitoring, intervention parent/caregiver education; liaise and referral to treatment centres and community services; development of education materials; provision of knowledge-sharing of best practice and research; participation in research.

1. CASLPO Registration
2. Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology
3. Minimum 5 years relevant pediatric experience
4. Extensive knowledge of preschool speech and language services in Hamilton as well as other community agencies
5. Demonstrated ability to interface with intake services at DPR and Early Words
6. Comprehensive knowledge of communication development, preschool communication disorders and developmental
Disabilities
7. Comprehensive knowledge of neuro-developmental and cognitive communication disorder/delay as it relates to preterm and/or high risk infants.
8. Demonstrated computer skills in Outlook and Meditech
9. Demonstrated teamwork skills and the ability to initiate and work independently
10. Willingness to participate in a criminal reference screening process
11. Fluency in French will be considered an asset
12. Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS)
