This is a Full-time position in Hamilton, ON posted April 25, 2021.

– THE NEIGHBOURHOOD ORGANIZATION (TNO, formerly Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office ) is a community based multicultural, multi-service agency, which offers a broad range of programs to serve Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park, and the surrounding communities through strengthening the quality of individual and community life.

Position Summary: The Care for Newcomer Children CNC is responsible for the children and the environment in which they are in.

They must also critically ensure the health and safety of each individual child and be sensitive to their unique cultural heritage and values.

Supports and actively engages in TNO’s community development principles and initiatives (It’s derived from current TNO’s Strategic Directions).

Main Tasks & Responsibilities: Develops activity plan for children Prepares and sets up activities like Art Work, Play-dough, Water Table, Sand etc.

Indulges children in indoor activities like singing, playing, reading, dancing and physical exercise Prepares and assists children for outdoor activities As per age group takes the children out on the stroller and for outdoor activities Participates and indulges children in outdoor play activities Periodically cleans the washrooms Cleans up table, chairs and floors before and after feeding the snacks Cleans toys, shelves, fridge, microwave, toaster, strollers and carpets daily Washes dishes daily after use Unpacks new toys and arranges toys in storage areas daily Assembles new furniture and arranges furniture daily Prepares and cooks snacks as per the Canadian Food Guidelines Feeds children who need help with the snacks Assists in purchasing of snacks and other items as required Conducts fire drill once a month Checks children daily, for injuries and illness as they arrive for the program Inspecting and maintaining toys, play areas and playground for safety hazards Actively participates in program’s community development activities including advocacy, outreach and community engagement activities.

Qualifications: Education The minimum level of education preferred is a Community College Diploma in Early Childhood Education (Assistant Level) and must possess First Aid & CPR certification.

Experience: One to 3 years of experience in childcare with knowledge of all areas of health and safety.

Equipment Used: Proficiency in the use of computers, electronic toys and electrical appliances.

Other: The CNC Staff must have security clearance and must pass the T.B.

and required immunizations Besides English, ability to communicate in another language spoken in the target community would be a strong asset.

Working Conditions: Hours of Work: Successful candidate would be required to work regular hours for 35 hours per weeks, and flexible between 8:30AM to 8:00PM besides evening shifts and weekends as decided by program requirements.

Location: This position will be located within any of TNO’s service locations based on community and program requirements.

The locations (multiple) for this position may be added or moved to new addresses in the future according to the community and program requirements.
