This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted September 19, 2022.

Union: UNIFOR Clerical

Location: KW Campus 

Work Type: Temporary Unscheduled Part Time 

Contract End Date: May 1, 2023 

Shift: 7.5 Hour Shifts Days – Monday – Friday

 

Summary:

Clerical functions in the Laboratory office including reception duties and use of the hospital and laboratory computer systems. Specific duties include registration of laboratory outpatients in the hospital computer system, electronic ordering of laboratory tests, printing, filing and distribution of reports and retrieving results. In addition, the candidate must sort and distribute general mail, accession and distribute consult cases for review and tumour boards, provide assistance to the department secretary, book appointments for laboratory outpatients and handle verbal communications with other laboratory and hospital staff, nursing stations, physicians, physicians’ offices, outpatients and the community.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary medical secretarial or health office administration diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • Excellent typing skills required
  • Medical Terminology required
  • Previous transcription experience required – preferably pathology terminology
  • Proficiency in word processing – Microsoft Word
  • Previous experience with Cerner PowerChart and Cerner Department Order Entry and CoPath an asset
  • Previous laboratory experience an asset
  • Must be able to work quickly and accurately
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Must be able to perform calmly under pressure and remain pleasant to patients and fellow workers
  • Good attendance record
