The successful candidates will work out of office space conveniently connected to Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH).

Although this is a practice setting, the physician will be able to expand their services to rural environments throughout Cape Breton Island to meet the needs of the population.

The physician may also participate in teaching through the family medicine residency program based in Sydney, and/or with medical students through Dalhousie University.

Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH) opened its door to patients in 1995.

Now, it is the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia that serves more than 200,000 patients a year.

It is part of a four hospital complex that also includes Glace Bay, New Waterford Consolidated, and Northside General Hospitals.Located in the historic town of Sydney, CBRH has 162 acute care beds, 36 emergency beds, 23 intermediate and critical care beds, 40 maternal child beds, 52 mental health and addiction beds, and nine palliative care beds.

The hospital provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient, and community-based programs.

Services: anesthesiology cancer and supportive care cardiac respiratory dermatology diabetes education services diagnostic imaging dialysis emergency medicine general surgery geriatric assessment and rehabilitation intensive care unit internal medicine laboratory services maternal/child support services mental health and addiction services neonatal care nutrition and diabetic counseling obstetrics and gynecology occupational therapy ophthalmology otolaryngology palliative care physiotherapy plastic surgery social work spiritual and religious care volunteer services Responsibilities meet, consult, and asses geriatric patients and their families work with complex patients to provide comprehensive assessments and offer creative treatments accept referrals from family physicians be a patient advocate Expected Hours full-time on call requirement: 2 days per month Qualifications all family physician must have membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) Community Details Failte (that’s “welcome”, for those not up to speed on their Gaelic) Sydney is the historic capital of Cape Breton and largest urban centre on the island.
