Clinical Leader

McMaster Children's Hospital’s (MCH) Child and Youth Mental Health Program (CYMHP) is one of Canada’s largest pediatric mental health service providers. Mandated to provide care for both local and regional patients, CYMHP offers a wide range of services for children, youth, and families experiencing complex mental health concerns. Our program includes emergency mental health services, a 22-bed inpatient unit, a day hospital program, and outpatient services.

Affiliated with McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, and the Offord Centre for Child Studies, CYMHP delivers world class care supported by world class scholarship. The Clinical Leader will be accountable to the Clinical Manager. The Clinical Leader will establish a collaborative relationship with the Program Director, Clinical Director and Medical Directors. The Clinical Leader is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the CYMHP services located at the McMaster site (outpatient, day hospital, inpatient and emergency services). The role provides leadership to the teams, and through the effective use of resources coordinates and facilitates daily clinical activities. The Clinical Leader acts as the communication liaison between services, both internal in CYMHP and MCH as well as with external hospital and community partners. The functions of the Clinical Leader include being a role model and coach to assist staff with professional development and achievement of program goals. The Clinical Leader is responsible for understanding and promoting the strategic direction of the services and MCH at large. The Clinical Leader follows through on issues that impact on the quality of patient care provided.

1. Registration as a Regulated Health Professional required
2. Minimum of five years of relevant clinical experience in child & youth mental health services
3. Demonstrates understanding of Child & Youth mental health issues including aspects of assessment and treatment
4. Demonstrates excellence in communication (both written and written), critical thinking and team building skills
5. Demonstrated commitment to continuing education/lifelong learning 6. Demonstrates the ability to manage and resolve conflict
7. Demonstrates the ability to work in an environment that requires a high degree of organizational skills and flexibility
8. Demonstrates commitment to the mission, vision and values of McMaster Children's Hospital
9. Demonstrates leadership qualities and skills
