Clinical Leader

Hamilton Health Sciences

This is a Contract position in Hamilton, ON posted July 26, 2022.

The Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Program encompasses the following inpatient units and services: Juravinski Hospital Emergency Department; B3, E3, F3 & F5 Medicine Units; M2 Complex Medical Rehabilitation Unit; and several Specialized Geriatric Services. The Program’s units and services are aimed to provide the Best Care for All for adults across the continuum, starting with the referral, to a possible admission to our inpatient unit or community geriatric medicine & geriatric psychiatry services.

The Clinical Teaching Units at the Juravinski Site encompass F3, E3 and B3 and provide acute adult medical patients as well as patients requiring an observation level of care and telemetry. The interdisciplinary teams on both units collaborate to provide high quality care for patients with acute medical diagnoses (e.g. myocardial in infarction, diabetic ketoacidosis, pneumonia, endocarditis, etc.) and chronic medical diagnoses (e.g. heart failure, COPD, coronary artery disease, etc.) throughout the various stages of their illnesses.

The Clinical Leader for Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Program works with the Clinical Managers and care team to support and promote quality care delivery for the adult acute medicine patients and families. The Clinical Leader is responsible for: managing the day-to-day issues related to patient care, identifying needs of the unit in relation to staff resources; monitoring staff attendance, retention, recruitment; performance management; implementation of policies and procedures; managing care delivery within a family centered care environment; quality indicators, team building; facilities; operational supplies and equipment; providing ongoing performance feedback and conducting performance evaluation for a defined group of employees; developing, coordinating, and maintaining staff relationships within interdisciplinary teams; consulting and liaison with Interprofessional Practice to ensure day to day maintenance and problem-solving regarding professional standards; supporting staff in problem solving and acting as a role model for clinical excellence, continuous learning, and measurement and evaluation; assisting the Manager with measurement and evaluation within the program; leading change effectively within the unit; facilitating communication between departments, programs and services; promoting staff engagement and cohesiveness.

1. Baccalaureate Degree in one of the Health Disciplines
2. Minimum 5 years of recent, relevant experience
3. Demonstrated leadership and coordination skills in a fast paced environment
4. Demonstrated creativity and innovation in the delivery of patient care services
5. Skill in facilitating the conduct of quality improvement programs
6. Demonstrated excellence in leadership, communication, organization, team
building and conflict resolution
7. Demonstrated advanced critical thinking skills in the provision of patient
focused care
8. Knowledge of the roles of the interdisciplinary health care team
9. Demonstrated excellence in the ability to initiate, model and support
change in a constructive manner
10. Demonstrated commitment to continuous education and learning for
self and others
11. Demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision and values of HHS
