The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, emergency response and recovery, policing and police oversight and public safety.

The ministry works to ensure the development, availability and access to Restorative Justice, Victim Services, and specialized courts and administers federal firearms legislation and advocates for Alberta’s lawful firearms owners and promotes safety.

The division is centralized and provides strategic and integrated planning, policy, business intelligence, transformation, agency oversight and cross-functional services and programs that serve Albertans and system partners across multiple sectors.

The Strategy Support and Integrated Initiatives division within the ministry is also a shared service, along with the financial services division, between Justice and the ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services (PSES).

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Security, the Executive Director will provide leadership to the Provincial Security Intelligence Office and advance the strategic interests of the Government of Alberta.

You will ensure the protection of Albertans, public officials, employees, assets and critical infrastructure from intentional threats, both foreign and domestic.

As an expert, you will provide timely security advice, assessments, intelligence and planning on matters of public security and national security that align with the strategic interest of the Government of Alberta (GoA).

You will be accountable for providing guidance and oversight to several operational areas that deliver province-wide services such as the Provincial Security Office, Intelligence Bureau, Hate Crimes Coordination Unit, Chief Firearms Office, Integrated Threat Risk Assessment Centre and Witness Protection.

As a strategic visionary you will be an innovative and confident leader with a systems thinking approach to articulating your vision to build a Provincial Security Office.

You have extensive acquired knowledge in all aspects of security, risk management, intelligence collection, public security and crime reduction.

You will continually engage with a broad range of executive level government, security, law enforcement and intelligence officials to facilitate the dissemination, integration, and utilization of information, intelligence, and strategic decision-making advice in respect of matters relevant to the security and interests of Albertans.

You engage with the private sector and non-government organizations and are accountable for supporting program areas including the First Nations Policing programs.

Qualifications As an influential and highly credible leader, you will build networks, lead, and coach and mentor your team to support their capacity development and you will establish a positive work environment that supports effective team collaboration.

Your strong communication skills and political acumen will enable you to lead projects cross-ministry as you develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Your professional credibility and developed partnerships within the Ministry, local communities, and government are critical to build a strong Provincial Security Intelligence Office.

As a ground breaker your strategic leadership, combined with your analytical approach, agility, creative problem solving, and policy development experience will aid to your success in this position.

A related degree or a degree combined with related experience in the government sector is preferred.

$4,861.49
– $6,388.91 bi-weekly ($126,884.89
– $166,750.55 yearly) Notes Final candidates will be required to undergo a security screening.
