– E&G) oversees the effective design and implementation of Environmental and Social Performance (E&SP) programs across the scope of all global Exploration & Geoscience led and supported activities.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all E&G teams – inclusive of the E&G Senior Management, Geoscience and Commercial/Evaluations personnel
– are aware and comply with all E&SP aspects of Teck HSEC Management System Standards, Procedures, Sustainability Policies and local (jurisdictional) regulations through the application of E&G’s Guidelines and processes.

The role is responsible for supporting the ongoing improvement and implementation of E&G’s E&SP strategy and management system elements for the benefit of all E&G jurisdictions.

The incumbent works directly with the Directors & Managers (Exploration), Manager, Health & Safety and Leads, E&SP to ensure the successful implementation of all E&SP programs and will advise the Directors and VP, Exploration & Geosciences in advancing E&G’s strategic E&SP objectives and tactical plans.

The role is required to maintain strong relationships with the Corporate Social Performance, Government Affairs and Environment functions to ensure both alignment of objectives but equally, to support corporate initiatives as required while maintaining strong relationships across Teck business units, operational sites and external industry E&SP peers within the Exploration and associated contractor industries.

Responsibilities: Ensures the quality and completeness of E&G E&SP Guidelines, processes and practices to meet corporate requirements and reflect appropriate industry best-practices; Provides leadership in the application of E&SP risk management systems employed across E&G; Ensures that all jurisdictional teams undertake effective and verified risk management to identify and mitigate all ‘major’ and ‘severe’ risks associated with self and contractor-managed activities, inclusive of Human Rights risks; Tracks group-level E&SP performance across E&G in accordance with both Teck-wide metrics and E&G-specific criteria; Manages the allocation of E&G Community Investment funds towards initiatives which aligns with Teck policy goals and E&G areas of focus; Provides recommendations on the allocation of resources across and within jurisdictions and reviews project and jurisdictional E&SP budgets and operational plans; Ensures the execution of assurance programs to promote compliance and continued improvement of E&SP performance against both Teck and E&G requirements; Supports the timely and accurate reporting of all E&SP unwanted events and identifies any local, regional and global trends of concern and ensures communication to E&G teams; Responsible for the completion of all comprehensive (ICAM) investigations related to High Potential Incidents (HPI level 3-4) and ensures the closure of all associated actions; Responsible for developing annual E&SP improvement plans and updating strategic goals / actions in collaboration with OH&S Leads for E&G management consideration; Provides E&G Directors & Managers with regular performance reviews to ensure the consistent implementation of E&SP programs and shares best practices to promote continuous improvement across E&G; Promotes a strong sense of professional community for all E&G E&SP practitioners and supports the professional development of the team; Monitor industry practices, trends and performance and implement continuous improvement opportunities as appropriate; Maintains effective professional networks across the industry in support of E&G E&SP objectives; Promotes Teck’s culture of Courageous Safety Leadership and encourages practice across the organization in line with Teck’s Core Values and sustainability goals; Qualifications: Degree in applicable Social or Environmental Science or associated field of study is desirable; At least 10 years of experience in community engagement, social or environmental risk mitigation, or social / environmental management in mineral exploration, mining or the broader natural resources sector; Solid understanding of Teck’s Sustainability Policies, Standards and Procedures; Strong understanding that respecting the rights, cultures, interests and aspirations of Indigenous Peoples is fundamental to our business, and that our vision is for everyone to contribute to a positive social and environmental legacy.

Advanced understanding of the principles (with experience in the implementation) of Social and Environmental Management Systems including Risk Assessment & Mitigation, Critical Controls, Hierarchy of Controls and use of Risk Control Register; Advanced experience in the design and implementation of E&SP programs / systems within the scope of mining or mining exploration activities; Demonstrated understanding of regulatory frameworks associated with appropriate local, national and international regulations as well as international and industry recognized frameworks for working on indigenous territories; Experience in E&SP audit / review processes within compliance and risk mitigation activities; Experience in incident review and investigation methods (i.e.

ICAM) including the classification of Environmental and Social Performance incidents; Expertise in hazard and risk identification associated with differing climates, terrains, habitats and cultures throughout stages of project development; Ability to influence individual and team performance through proactive leadership; Willingness to influence leadership towards meeting their functional E&SP accountabilities; Active mentorship across a range of E&SP and E&G practitioners towards skills and knowledge improvements; Excellent inter-personal, networking, communication and relationship management skills are an asset; Advanced oral and written English language skills are required.

Spanish language skills are also preferred.
